This building is fascinating, not only for the organic design of the building, but in the way that the ground integrates into the archways and the facade design.

I’ve posted about Linda’s furiae.com before, and while she’s still off on sick leave, the work there is timeless and her tutorials are always worth a look.

So, imagine my surprise when I took my periodic trek into her site to find some new content! This time, it’s papier maché masks, and they are no less than astounding. I was actually saying, “that’s papier maché?!” right out loud – people on campus pretty much already think I’m nuts, though, so that’s OK.

Just as amazing are the photos of the masks. Beautifully lit and composed on live models, the photos and the masks have me not sure if I want to get back into photography or start anew at mask making!

Frederic Terral’s Right Brain Terrain is chock full of interesting and beautifully-designed ephemera. My favourite part, however, is his Notebook, especially the visual representation of the evolution of his logo.

I probably can’t express properly my adoration of the artwork furiae.com. The site navigation needs some work (the confined box is way too small!) but Linda Bergkvist, the genius behind it all, hasn’t posted or updated since January 2007, so I suppose she can be forgiven!

The whole site is gem after gem of brilliant digital painting and artistry, but what I really want to point your attention to is the tutorials. It’s not obvious right off that she has them, but if you choose Gallery, you’ll then get an option for Tutorials. Then you can choose from a nose tutorial, thoughts on skintones, a lip tutorial, painting an eye, textured brushes, painting hair, & smooth blending. Every now and again I go back to these pages as a refresher, and I’m always inspired to paint something new.

This incredible piece of CG work was created for no reason other than to make a piece of art, which is one of my favourite reasons. Excellent look into the making of this 3D image, and the artist behind-the-scenes.

I like to troll through the CGSociety’s forums and selected artists to find nifty art and those who create it. I’ve recently found Blaizer, an exceptionally talented illustrator, texture artist and modeller. There’s an excellent portfolio with a lot of progress + beauty renders that give you an idea of the artist’s workflow (as well as skill).

Just go take a look, you won’t regret it!

Mike Rohde, a designer, writer and artist from Wisconsin, attended the SEED conference this week, and took/drew these really amazing Moleskine sketchnotes. Not only are they an example of design-on-the-fly, but they also contain shiny nuggets of wisdom from some of the web’s best designers and developers.
